Aaron grew up off the grid in rural New Mexico with no running water or electricity. He got his first job at age 12 and graduated high school at 16. At 17 years old he set out on his own to seek his fortune, and after some travels, he moved to San Diego, California to begin an apprenticeship in the Iron Workers Union. In 2004, he became a journeyman.

From there he organized his time and finances and began to travel internationally.

From a young age, Aaron had a knack for numbers, mathematics, and pattern recognition. Combining this gift with his strong sense of curiosity and a passion for study, he invests countless hours researching the ways of personal finance, and methods for improving one’s financial circumstances. By applying what he’s learned, Aaron has been able to fund a total of 7 full years of world travel since 2004, studying culture, finance, music, and language.

In 2008, with a love for West African drumming and no colleges or teacher to provide the musical education he desired, Aaron began traveling to Mali year after year. Walking into small villages he learned the languages Bambara and Fulani from the locals and solicited drumming instruction from the elders.

Currently, he lives in Seattle, WA with his wife Saly and son Elijah. In addition to personal finance, Aaron teaches private and group drumming lessons weekly as well as seminars all over the U.S. and Japan. He has gained recognition for his musical abilities and research and has been invited to give lectures on music theory and ethnomusicology at UCLA, UW, and various events. Aaron has published some of his musical theories on the website Konkoni.org.
